Empire League Playoffs

March 2, 2010 Update,
As of March 2, 2010, the league standings and playoff seedings are all set.

Playoffs:

  1. The first 8 playoff games are set and can be found at http://www.pointstreak.com/stats/pro/leagueschedule.html?leagueid=362&seasonid=5170
  2. The Eastern seeds in order are Junior Bruins, Monarchs, Bridgewater, Green Mountain, Bay State, Springfield, Huskies and South Shore.
  3. The Western seeds in order are Apple Core, Hitmen, Buffalo, Brewster, Maksymum, Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

The National Picture

  1. Here are the berths and potential berths to Nationals as they stand now:

(1) Junior Bruins
(2) Winner of the Final Four
(3) Runner Up in the Final Four
(4) Apple Core
(5) 2nd Runner Up in the Final Four
(6) Monarchs
(7)Hitmen
(8) Buffalo
(9) Bridgewater

  1. Note: The “fourth” team finish in the Final Four will not advance unless they meet another criterion. So the key is the “Final Three”.
  2. The 6th team at the end will host the # 3 CHA team.
  1. Of course, any of the teams in playoff contention can move on by being one of the Final Three.
  2. The teams listed in 5. above, can move up in position by virtue of finishing in the Final Three.
  1. Bridgewater will be the 6th team if 3 teams above them on the list also finish in the Final Three. If one team not on the list sneaks into the Final Three, they will be eliminated
  1. Buffalo will be the 6th team if 2 teams above them on the list also finish in the Final Three. If 2 teams below them sneak into the Final Three, they will be eliminated.
  1. The Hitmen will be the 6th team if only 1 team above them on the list also finishes in the Final Three, If 3 teams below them sneak into the Final Three, they will be eliminated and the Monarchs will hold the 6th spot.

EMPIRE LEAGUE PLAYOFFS

The top 8 teams in each Conference make the playoffs. Tie breakers are

  1. Most points
  2. Most Wins
  3. Head to Head
  4. Fewest losses
  5. Most Goals For
  6. Fewest Goals Against
  7. Coin Toss

 

First Round

Format

  1. Double Elimination
  2. Seeds determined by regular season finish. Higher seed is always the home team.
  3. Three-20 minute periods with ice cut in between each period.
  4. Game cannot end in a tie. In case OT is needed, teams go to locker rooms; ice is cut, 20 minutes put on the clock, first team to score wins. OT is played 5-5.
  5. Warm-ups are 10 minutes and there is always an ice cut in between warm-ups and the start of the game (can be on dirty ice/clean depending on what precedes game)
  6. Host venue/league provides pucks for warm-ups and games
  7. Host venue/league provides music for warm-ups, play stoppages and between periods.
  8. Host venue/league provides game sheets
  9. League enters games into Pointstreak

Seedings to Nationals

The Empire League has 5 berths at Nationals.

A sixth berth is possible. The # 6 Empire team will host the #3 CHA team for one game as soon as practicable after March 14. The winning team will advance to Nationals.

The seedings are determined as follows:

  2. Winner of the Final Four
  3. Runner Up in the Final Four
  4. Conference Champion (other than #1)
  5. 2nd Runner Up in the Final Four
  6. Next highest Regular Season Finish
  7. Next highest Regular Season Finish
  8. Next highest Regular Season Finish
