Empire Players/Coach of the Month Selectees, October 2010

John Gurkis Coach: John Gurkis
Team: South Shore Kings
Under the leadership of Coach Gurskis, the Kings led the League in October with a 7-0-1 record, garnering 17 of a possible 18 points and sit at the top of the Eastern Conference. Coach Gurskis is native of Brockton, MA. He attended Xaverian Brothers High School and graduated in 1994. Upon his graduation from Xaverian Brothers, he began his college experience as a student athlete at St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont. He graduated in 1998 with a BA in Psychology. At St. Michaelís, John was the Menís Ice Hockey Programís all time leading scorer with 93 (Goals), 141 (Assists) for a total of 234 points. He was also named an NCAA All-American (4 Times) and ECAC player of the year (2 Times). John's professional career spanned 10 years and over 500 games in Europe, East Coast, Central, United, and Southern Leagues John also spends time as an On Ice Instructor for Pro Ambitions (3 years) and has been involved with Lovell's Hockey Schools for the past 6 years.

Apple Core Player: Zander Masucci
Position: Defenseman
Team: NY Apple Core
Zander Masucci anchored a stingy Apple Core defense that allowed only 17 goals against in 10 games in October. He also helped the offensive effort with 2 goals and 10 assists for 12 points, including 7 power play points and a game winning goal. Masucciís defensive play combined with his offensive output has helped Apple Core to their perch at the top of the Western Conference and the league.

Warriors
Player:
Ara Nazarian
Position: Forward
Team: Valley Junior Warriors
Ara is one of the 5 youngest players in the league, but his offensive output is the envy of a lot of veterans. In 10 games, Ara had 15 goals and 22 points, accounting for about 1/3 of his team's scoring. Ara is doing it all as he registered 2 game winners, 5 power play goals and a shortie. A 2 minute delay of game minor is the only blemish on a Lady Bing worthy performance in October.

Kings

Players: Ryan Hubbard
Position: Goalie
Team: South Shore Kings

Goaltender Hubbard kept the opposition out of his cupboard in October, letting up a meager 8 goals in 7 games for a 1.191 save percentage. Ryan's astronomical Save pct. also led all league net minders at .968. His efforts included 2 shut outs and he is a major contributor in the Kings ascent to the top of the East.
