Empire Players of The Week - January 29, 2012
Player: Conor Garland
Team: Junior Bruins - 96 (Scituate, MA)
Garland, an offensive point machine, picked up 13 points on the weekend helping lead his team to a 3 game weekend sweep of the Huskies and Ice Dogs. The three wins, all on the road, keeps the Bís in first place and in control of their own playoff destiny as they look to lock up the #1 seed in the conference. Garlandís 8 goals and 4 assist weekend now gives him 73 on the year and he is averaging just more than a goal and game and well over one assist per game. All this as one of the youngest players in the league.
Player: Peter Veltri
Team: Potomac - 94 (Clifton, VA)
Scored the GWG in OT Saturday, 2 PP goals Sunday in the two 3-2 victories over Maksymum.
Player: Jacob Caffrey
Team: Jersey Hitmen - 94 (Bethesda, MD)
Caffrey was perfect in League play this month, starting with a defeat of
the Brewster Bulldogs on January 14th. But it was his victory over the
Philadelphia Revolution this past Saturday that proved that Jacob was a goalie
to be reckoned with. In leading the Hitmen to a 4-3 shootout victory the
'94 birth year goaltender turned aside 56 of Philly's 59 shots on goal
through overtime, many in spectacular fashion. He followed up those heroics by
stoning all three of the Revolutions attempts in the shootout to pick up his
second Empire League victory in as many games.
