BUFFALO STARS HOST “SALUTE TO AMERICAN TROOPS” WEEKEND
AS JUNIOR HOCKEY CLUBS OPEN 2010-11 SEASON
Cheektowaga, NY- Representatives of three branches of the United States Military will be present, including color guards, as the Buffalo Stars Junior Hockey Club opens its 2010-11 season with its traditional “Salute to American Troops” weekend, September 10 through 12.
On Saturday, September 11, recruiters from the Army, Navy & Marines will host information stations in the main lobby of Holiday Twin Rinks, 3645 Broadway in Cheektowaga, at the invitation of the Stars organization. In addition, the Army will provide a color guard for a pre-game ceremony at 4pm, while the Marines will provide a similar color guard for a similar ceremony at approximately 7pm.
Recognizing that the opening ceremonies fall on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the Stars will include a remembrance of the victims as part of their pre-game ceremonies.
Here is the schedule of events for opening ceremonies on Saturday the 11th. All events take place at Holiday Twin Rinks:
2:15pm - Exhibition game: Buffalo Stars Alumni vs. Lantrax WNY Media All-Stars
3:00 to 8:00 pm – Army, Navy & Marines host “information stations” in the rink lobby
4:00pm – Continental Hockey Association Jr. B Hockey: Buffalo Stars vs. New England Huskies
(pregame ceremonies include player introductions, installation of new captains, moment of silence for 9/11 anniversary, ceremonial puck drop by State Senator William Stachowski, national anthem led by color guard from United States Army Recruitment Station, Cheektowaga)
7:30pm – Empire Junior Hockey League: Buffalo Stars vs. Frederick (MD) Freeze
(pregame ceremonies include player introductions, installation of new captains, moment of silence for 9/11 anniversary, ceremonial puck drop by U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer (Retired) Raymond Hauser, national anthem led by color guard from U.S. Marines Recruitment Substation, West Seneca)
In addition, the Stars will be collecting gift cards to benefit the New York Air National Guard 107th Airlift Wing's Family Readiness Unit and hosting an in-house Chinese Auction to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
