Buffalo Stars score success on the Road :

In Empire Junior B action, the Buffalo Stars took on the Jersey Wildcats in Aspen, N.J. This would be a critical series for both teams as they are almost dead even in most categories and should go down to the wire fighting for a playoff berth.

On Saturday, the Buffalo Stars played in what was perhaps their worst effort of the season. After a scoreless first period, the Stars played dead as the Wildcats stormed onto the ice and recorded 4 goals. Their domination carried over into the 3rd and the Stars skated off with their worst loss of the season, 6-1. The lone Buffalo goal came off the stick of Tyler Gajewski.

On Sunday morning, facing the reality that their recent success could be flushed away in an instant, the Stars came out determined to win. Both teams played a fast paced first period but Jersey took the lead at the mid way point. Buffalo came back in the second as Brandon Pratt blasted a 30 foot slapshot home to tie the game at one. Jersey again took the lead just 4 minutes later. A great 3rd period ensued and Buffalo tied off the face off as gritty Ryan Jaracz forced his way to the net and put the puck past the stunned Jersey netminder. Buffalo, once again facing OT for an unprecedented 9th time this season was determined to win. Just 44 seconds into the OT, Matt Long swept down the left side of the rink and blasted home a 40 foot shot as the Stars went on to celebrate a very critical win. Bryan Forbes was stellar in net turning back 30 Wildcats shots.

The Stars Empire team is now 9-9-8 in league play, good for 3rd place in the Division and 4th overall in the Conference. The Stars overall record is 13-10-8.
