Buffalo Stars begin Empire League Season

The Buffalo Stars begin their inaugural season in the Empire Junior B
Hockey League as they travel east to Vermont to face off against 3 Eastern
Conference opponents.

Buffalo will face off against the Capital District Selects on Friday
night. On Saturday they face the Bay State Breakers and they wrap up their
initial Empire road trip against the Boston Junior Bruins on Sunday
morning.

Buffalo is the new kid on the block in the Empire Junior B league after
having purchased that franchise from Wheatfield over the summer.

Although not yet playing with a full roster, the Stars feel they have a
solid roster in place. Returning veterans from last years Buffalo Stars
Premier team include Phil DiFrancisco and Dan Mulligan on Defense,
Stephano Bueme, Tom Gault and Alex Lichorat on Forward and Brendan Kerr in
Goal. The Stars have also promoted several Junior C players from their
MAD Development team. These include Joe Chappius and Mark McGinley on
Defense, Brian Becker, Craig Blanchard and Steven Kinney on Forward and
Mike Flatley in Goal. New to the Stars this season are Nathan Bond, a
defenseman from Cathedral Prep in Erie and Matt Pelloth from Starpoint.
New on forward is Kyle Couell from Orchard Park, Ryan Hayes, a Canisius
College Student, Jake Hixson from Hamburg, Mark Lucatra , Bryan Shorthouse
and Brian Umansky, all from the Wheatfield Blades. John Mioduszewski,
another Erie Cathedral Prep player rounds out the goaltending unit.

The Buffalo Stars Empire Team is coached by Peter Preteroti and Kevin Kerr
and assisted by Eric DiRamio, Ron Burton, Jerry Wheeler and Shawn Kerr.
Greg Flury is the Team Trainer and Paramedic.

This weekend's Showcase is part of the Green Mountain Glades Annual
Showcase. Empire Teams from opposite Conferences play their league games
in showcase events like this.

Buffalo returns home next weekend as they host Tri State at Holiday Twin
Rinks on Saturday and Sunday. This will be part of a double header that
also features the league opener for the Stars Junior C team as they take
on the Long Island Predators.
